Mobile, AL RV rentals, delivered to a campground, because the city code bars living in an RV on a house lot

The City of Mobile says an RV may not be used for residential purposes, or occupied while parked in a residential district, without the city’s approval. So a camper rented for Mobile goes to a campground, and we tow it there from our lot in Foley and set it up. Delivery to Mobile is $350.

Mobile in short

  • What: camper rentals, 15 campers on the calendar, delivered and hooked up to water, sewer and power at your site.
  • Where: a campground. Inside the Mobile city limits the code below rules out a driveway. Across the Causeway, Meaher State Park in Spanish Fort is the park our own copy recommends.
  • Camper price: $109 to $225 a night, $588.60 to $1,350 a week, $2,648.70 to $6,075 a month. Measured from our booking calendar on October 15, 2026. The camper and the dates decide where you land. Check your dates for the exact rate.
  • Delivery to Mobile: $350 from our fee table. Spanish Fort, where Meaher is, is $250. Dauphin Island is $400. Every town’s fee.
  • Shortest trip: 3 nights. At list price that is $677 to $1,025 with delivery to Mobile, or $577 to $925 delivered to Meaher, before the campground’s site fee.
  • Set at checkout, not here: the security deposit, prep fee and insurance. Pets and add-ons are priced on the pet policy and add-ons pages.
  • Who can rent: 25 or older.

Why the driveway offer stops at the Mobile city limits

Our homepage offers house guests a camper “right in your driveway”, and our fee table prices Mobile as one row. Inside the City of Mobile the code says otherwise. The city’s Unified Development Code, Sec. 64-4-10.A.9(a), reads:

Except as provided in this Section, Temporary Structures, incomplete buildings, automotive equipment, trailers, Recreational Vehicles, garages, and the like shall not be maintained or used for residential purposes.

Its parking standards, Sec. 64-3-12.A.1(a)(1)a, add:

In residential districts or residential areas of PD districts, parking of one RV is allowed per Owner, when the Owner of the RV is a resident of the property. The RV cannot be occupied while parked in a residential district unless all applicable approvals have been obtained.

Neither section defines a short visit, and neither names a house guest. The one approval the code itself describes is for a homeowner whose house has been made unfit to live in, for up to 12 months during active construction, and it needs all of these:

  • A house on the lot made unfit to live in by an event or by renovation.
  • The RV on that same single-family lot, within the zoning district's setbacks.
  • Water and sanitary facilities provided.
  • Active construction, with extensions from the Director while a building permit is active.
  • Out of use within 14 days of the certificate of occupancy for the house.

That case is covered on our hurricane temporary housing page. A family visit or a wedding weekend is not it. So for guests visiting Mobile, the camper goes to a campground site, and that is where they sleep. If you believe your case needs an approval, ask Build Mobile, the city’s permitting department, before you book.

Check which side of the city line the address is on

The rule above is the City of Mobile’s, and it binds inside the city limits. Check the address on the city’s own city-limits map. Outside the city, the Mobile County building code we read regulates RV parks, defined as a lot with three or more RVs used as living quarters, and needs a site plan approved before that many go on one lot. It says nothing about one camper parked beside a house for guests. We did not find a county rule on it, which is not the same as there being none, so ask Mobile County Inspection Services before you plan on a driveway in the county. Other towns in Mobile County have their own codes, which we have not read.

What it costs to get this wrong

Sec. 64-7-1 of the code makes each day a violation continues a separate offense, and Sec. 1-21 of the City Code sets the ceiling for each at a fine of $500 and up to six months. Across our 3-night minimum that is up to $1,500 in fines, against a delivery fee of $350. The fine is the ceiling. The cost you would actually meet is a camper and its guests that have to move to a campground mid-trip, and we publish no fee for moving a camper between sites, so that is a phone call and a second trip. Book the campground first and none of it arises.

The campground our copy recommends, and its rules

Our surrounding area page lists Meaher State Park first among its campground recommendations. It sits on the Causeway at 5200 Battleship Parkway East, Spanish Fort, AL 36527, phone (251) 626-5529, with 108 RV sites, each with 50-amp power, water and sewer. The park describes itself as serving the Mobile and Baldwin County area, and by our route it is 7.5 miles from Mobile Government Plaza. Our campground list names no park inside Mobile County, and which Mobile parks we deliver to most is a question we have put to the owner. We read the state park rules on October 15, 2026. Below is what delivery there costs, then the three park rules that decide how your camper is used.

Spanish Fort is the $250 row, not the $350 row

Meaher’s address is Spanish Fort, in Baldwin County, and Spanish Fort sits on the $250 row of our fee table. An address in Mobile is $350. That is $100 less for the delivery, or $33.33 a night across a 3-night stay, before the park’s own site fee. Confirm the row with us when you book.

A 14-night limit, which a monthly rental outruns

Alabama State Parks cap a camping stay at 14 nights, or 31 nights from November 1 to March 31 at select parks. The policy does not say which parks those are. Our monthly price is for 30 nights, so a month at Meaher is the park’s to allow, not ours. Ask the office before you book a monthly camper for it, and see long-term stays for parks that publish monthly terms.

Eight people per site, whatever the camper sleeps

Camping rates allow up to 8 people per campsite, with exceptions for immediate family, and one wheeled camper per site. Larger groups reserve another site. Two of our 15 campers sleep more than 8, so outside immediate family their extra beds stay empty there. The other 13 sleep 8 or fewer.

Check-in is 2 PM, and the office keeps short hours

State park campgrounds check in at 2 PM and out at 11 AM. The park lists its office hours as 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., and the policy asks campers to stop by the office once camp is set up. We do not publish a delivery window, so set the delivery time with us when you book. Reserve the site at the state parks booking page, and tell the office your trailer is being delivered and set up by us.

From our Foley lot to Mobile

Picking the camper up yourself instead of having it delivered? The lot is at 20839 Brinks Willis Rd, Foley, AL 36535. It is a storage yard worked by appointment, so call 1-251-279-0483 before you come. The drive to Meaher State Park is 34.2 miles:

  1. Leave the lot at 20839 Brinks Willis Rd and follow Brinks Willis Road about 0.8 miles to AL 59. Turn right, north.
  2. Stay on AL 59 north through Foley, Summerdale and Robertsdale, about 22 miles, to the Interstate 10 interchange.
  3. Take I-10 west about 8 miles to the exit signed US 90, US 98, Daphne-Fairhope, Spanish Fort.
  4. Follow US 90/98 about 1.6 miles to the park entrance on Battleship Parkway.

For downtown Mobile, stay on I-10 west across the Bayway and through the George Wallace Tunnel instead of leaving at the park exit. Downtown is about 41.3 miles from the lot.

Towing into downtown: stay on I-10

Two tunnels cross the Mobile River downtown. The Bankhead Tunnel, on US 98 and Government Street, has a 12-foot clearance, and the route planner we used to measure this page sent a trip to Government Plaza off I-10 and into it. Our listings do not publish camper heights, so we cannot tell you a camper clears it. Ignore a route that leaves I-10 for Government Street. We found no published ALDOT rule on the propane an RV carries for its own use in the Wallace Tunnel, so follow the signs at the tunnel entrance. Towing needs an electric brake controller on the tow vehicle; we rent a wireless one if yours has none.

Booking Mobile, in order

  1. If you were planning on a house lot, check the address on the city-limits map. Inside the city, plan on a campground.
  2. Book the campground site for the nights and the number of people. At Meaher State Park that is 14 nights and 8 people at most outside the exceptions above.
  3. Pick a camper that sleeps that many. See the campers.
  4. Book the camper for the same dates, at least 3 nights. Live calendar.
  5. Tell us the park and agree a delivery time inside its check-in window. Delivery is $350 to Mobile and $250 to Spanish Fort.

Mobile questions

How much is an RV rental in Mobile, AL?

Our campers list at $109 to $225 a night, $588.60 to $1,350 a week and $2,648.70 to $6,075 a month, measured from our booking calendar on October 15, 2026. Which camper and which dates decide where you land. Delivery and setup to Mobile is $350 from our published fee table, and a campground charges its own site fee on top.

Check your dates

Can you deliver a camper to my house in Mobile for guests to stay in?

Not inside the Mobile city limits, as the city code reads. Sec. 64-4-10.A.9(a) says RVs shall not be maintained or used for residential purposes, and Sec. 64-3-12.A.1(a)(1)a says an RV cannot be occupied while parked in a residential district unless all applicable approvals have been obtained. The only approval the code describes is for a homeowner living beside a house being rebuilt. Outside the city, the Mobile County code we read covers RV parks and says nothing about one camper for guests, so ask Mobile County Inspection Services before you plan on it.

Which campground near Mobile do you deliver to?

Our own campground recommendations name Meaher State Park, on Battleship Parkway in Spanish Fort, 7.5 miles from Mobile Government Plaza. Spanish Fort is on the $250 row of our fee table, against $350 for Mobile. Our campground list names no park inside Mobile County. Tell us the park you have in mind and we will confirm the fee.

Campgrounds we deliver to

Can I keep a rental camper at Meaher State Park for a month?

Not on one booking for most of the year. Alabama State Parks cap a camping stay at 14 nights, or 31 nights from November 1 to March 31 at select parks, and the policy does not name which parks. Ask the park office before you book a monthly camper for Meaher. Inside the city, Mobile's code defines an RV park by stays under 30 days, so ask any park in the city limits whether it takes a month.

Long-term stays

Can I tow the camper to Mobile myself?

Yes, with an electric brake controller on the tow vehicle. Stay on I-10 through the George Wallace Tunnel. Do not take the Bankhead Tunnel on Government Street: its clearance is 12 feet, and our listings do not publish camper heights.

Brake controllers

How old do you have to be to rent?

25 or older, on every camper. Alabama State Parks ask that the person reserving a campsite is 18, so the park rule does not lower ours.
